Tuolumne River Trust
Description
The Tuolumne River Trust (TRT) works to restore, protect and advocate for the Tuolumne River and its surrounding watershed. TRT was founded in 1981 and since has grown into a wide-ranging environmental organization with offices in San Francisco, Modesto and Sonora.
The Sonora office (also known as the Headwaters office) focuses on restoration work, volunteer outreach and fire preparedness through an extensive fuelbreaks project along Highway 108. Volunteers with TRT get hands-on experience coupled with guided outdoor adventure and the knowledge that their work has made a difference.
Volunteer Tasks:
Trail maintenance: TRT's volunteer trail work program gives volunteers the opportunity to learn about and perform trail maintenance while enjoying a hike along the Tuolumne River, this work occurs year-round.
Riparian Restoration activities: In the winter and early spring Volunteers can assist with our restoration program by attending collection days for riparian cuttings to plant along the Tuolumne River to help restore important riverside habitat.
Meadow restoration: This summer TRT will be working on meadow restoration projects and volunteers can assist with removal of invasive species and other meadow habitat restoration activities.
River Cleanups: TRT also plans river cleanups, which usually occur in the fall at the end of the summer recreation season.
& More!: TRT's volunteer opportunities develop as our organization grows, join our volunteer list to stay informed about upcoming events! We also have offices in Modesto and San Francisco, providing other opportunities for volunteer engagement.
