The primary mission for the California Highway Patrol is to provide safety, service and security to both Californians and our visitors. Not only do CHP officers enforce the laws, but they also investigate traffic crashes, assist with disable vehicles and protect our state properties.
We also have volunteer programs which give community members an opportunity to serve their communities. Our Senior Volunteer Program provides senior adult men and women the opportunity to volunteer their time to assist CHP employees in the performance of their duties. Those services include: Teach driver safety to seniors in the community, direct traffic at special events, work with local schools, assist with the front office and participate in ride-alongs with CHP officers.
We also have an Explorer Program which is a unique and challenging opportunity for young men and women (ages 15-21). Our mission for the Explorer Program is to develop young individuals into responsible and productive citizens through discipline and a commitment to serve the communities. Our Explorer activities consist of Ride-alongs with CHP officers, DUI checkpoints, Physical Fitness Training, Explorer meetings and Explorer competitions.
If you are interested in joining one of these programs or would like more information, please contact the Sonora Area CHP office in Jamestown at 209-984-3944.
