KAAD-LP is a non-profit, all-volunteer community radio station that has been broadcasting since early 2017. We are supported by individual contributors, grants and underwriting/sponsorships. We are designated by the FCC as a low-power station, which means our signal is mainly heard in Sonora at 103.5FM, with some spillover to Jamestown and Columbia. Therefore, the bulk of our listeners find us on the internet streaming at kaad-lp.org.

We serve the community in two ways: First, we offer people the opportunity to participate in creating a radio station, in many cases, sharing their expertise or passion on-air.

Second, we provide our listeners with homegrown, quality, alternative entertainment. We play music of many different genres. We also offer “talk” shows whose topics range from gardening to wellness, local history to the ins-and-outs of horsemanship. We feature interviews with community contributors as well as present storytellers and writers. We are open to suggestions for new topics that our listeners might find interesting.

We have on staff several excellent trainers in the audio arts. When a new programmer joins KAAD, that person is trained in the operation of the broadcast system and/or how to edit programs so that it is possible to participate from home.

We are very interested in training youth as well and have offered a short course annually for Cassina High School students. It is our hope to further develop audio training for high school and elementary school students.

Beyond creating programs, we have a great many jobs that need doing. They include engineering, scheduling, grant writing, archiving, digitizing music, spearheading social media, running promotion campaigns, fundraising, selling underwriting and many other jobs, large and small.
