California Highway Patrol
Description
The Sonora Area CHP office has volunteering opportunities for our Senior Volunteer program and our Explorer program.
The Senior Volunteer program consists of men and women over the age of 55 that are wanting to be involved with assisting the CHP. Our volunteers help with clerical duties, such as filing paperwork, answering phone calls and helping at the front desk. They also go out on ride-a-longs with the officers and even go out paired up to drive around in our patrol vehicles and look for vehicles that fall under the foreign registration program (owners of vehicles that falsely register their vehicles out of state to avoid paying fees).
Our Explorer program consists of students and young adults between the ages of 15 years and 21 years who are interested in becoming a CHP officer. They are trained and instructed on what duties CHP officers have to perform. We also ensure that they are respectful and outstanding citizens and hold them to those standards.
