Firewise USA

Description

The national Firewise USA® recognition program provides a collaborative framework to help neighbors in a geographic area get organized, find direction, and take action to increase the ignition resistance of their homes and community and to reduce wildfire risks at the local level.  Any community that meets a set of voluntary criteria on an annual basis and retains an “In Good Standing Status” may identify itself as being a Firewise® Site. There are 18 recognized FIREWISE USA community sites in Tuolumne County and more in progress. The Firewise USA Program is free. It is a grass roots effort of neighbors working together to reduce the risk of  wildfire damage to their neighborhoods.

Here are some of the many Benefits of joining
a Firewise Community:

ü Reduced risk to life and property from
wildfire

ü Get a Framework for Action

ü Community building & citizen pride

ü Sharing resources, helping neighbors

ü Access to funding & assistance

ü Discounts on fire insurance (USAA, CAL Fire
Plan, State Farm, Mercury) Check with your provider to see if they participate.

Volunteer Tasks:

The Firewise USA program is volunteer based. Firewise Communities are formed, operated and maintained by volunteers. Join with a group of your neighbors to organize and apply for your area to become a nationally recognized Firewise Community. If you are interested in starting a volunteer Firewise Community contact [email protected]. By joining together, we can accomplish more than we can individually. Volunteer now, you can make a difference!
